The Trump government of America is preparing to send some Iranian citizens and other migrants to the Central African Republic. This country has been struggling with poverty, violence and political instability for a long time. According to Reuters report, under this plan some citizens of Iran, Syria, Afghanistan and Turkey can be sent there.
Two Iranian women are also included among those who are being sent. One woman has converted to Christianity, while the other is a pro-democracy activist. The lawyer says that if they are sent back to Iran, they may be in danger of torture, arrest or harassment. Both the women had reached America in November 2024 and had sought asylum there.
How many people will go on the first flight?
The US Immigration Court had also given legal protection called Withholding of Removal to both the women. That is, the court had considered that the possibility of them facing harassment or torture upon returning to Iran was more than 50%. According to the report, under this agreement, there can be about 20 people in the first flight to Central African Republic. These will include Iranian, Syrian and Afghan citizens. A Turkish citizen may also be included in this, who left his country for political reasons.
What is Trump’s third country deportation policy?
The Trump administration has recently adopted a third country deportation policy. Under this, such people are sent to a third country instead of their own country, who cannot be sent back directly due to legal reasons. America has recently made such an agreement with the Central African Republic.
According to an American official, after reaching there, these people will be kept in apartments in the capital Bangui. They will not be immediately sent back to their countries of origin. The official also said that in the future, hundreds of migrants could be sent to the Central African Republic under this agreement. Human rights organizations have criticized this decision. He says that on one hand America talks about supporting the people of Iran, but on the other hand it is sending the same people to countries where security and living conditions are very bad.
Central African Republic became independent from France
The Central African Republic became independent from France in 1960. Since then this country has faced civil strife, rebellion and political crisis many times. Most of the people of this country with a population of about 55 lakhs are living in poverty. There have been some peace agreements in recent years, but it is still counted among the poorest and most unstable countries in the world.
