America: DoJ’s decision in Adani case is right, Harish Salve cited lack of evidence and jurisdiction as the basis.

July 6, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Legal experts from India, Britain and America have supported the decision to withdraw the criminal case ongoing in America against Gautam Adani. He said that the response given by the US Department of Justice (DoJ) in the court clearly shows that there is no need to prosecute this case. These statements came to light when the US Justice Department filed a long report in the court.

In this the department said that no organized criminal gang was involved in this case. American companies did not suffer any loss. There was no impact on India’s national security. This has already been investigated in India. The department also questioned why this case was initiated at all?

‘Biden government was running negative propaganda’

Senior advocate Harish Salve said that the report of the US Department of Justice (DoJ) clearly shows that in Gautam Adani’s case, there were not those things due to which a case is usually prosecuted in America. He said that in this case there was neither any impact on national security, nor any connection with American companies, nor any organized crime.

Many lawyers had looked at the evidence carefully. This case was registered at the end of 2024 without even listening to the defense side (Adani’s lawyer). He also alleged that the previous Biden government was running negative propaganda against India. Some American senators were continuously speaking against India and putting pressure on India. Salve said the entire matter was just an attempt to “malign and embarrass” him. There was no real hope of winning the case. It is expected that the American court will close this case soon.

‘There was no strong case’

Lawyer Vijay Aggarwal said that it is clear from the report of the US Justice Department (DoJ) that the prosecution (DoJ) did not have concrete evidence in the case of Gautam Adani. He said that from the beginning there was no strong case in this matter. The evidence was very weak. The most important thing is that there does not appear to be any provable loss. Therefore there is no basis for prosecution. Vijay Aggarwal further said that the courts do not conduct cases on their own. They decide only on those cases which are brought before them.
