
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has sent back 1,076 Indian citizens from the US so far this year. The ministry said both sides are committed to taking action against illegal migration. This information was given by the Ministry of External Affairs on June 5. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that a total of 3,567 Indians were sent back in 2025. He said that so far this year, a total of 1,076 Indian citizens have been sent back from America to India. During 2025, a total of 3,567 people were deported from the US. The Trump administration is taking action as part of a major campaign against illegal immigrants in America.
India has made it clear that if a citizen is living abroad illegally, it is the responsibility of the concerned country to take him back. However, for this, confirmation of their citizenship is necessary. The Ministry of External Affairs had told Parliament last year that this is not just India’s policy. This is a generally accepted principle in international relations.
Indian agencies will investigate
The ministry had also said that the government is working closely with the US to bring back those who had entered the US illegally. Whose visa had expired, or who were living in America without any documents. The list of people selected for deportation by the US is closely scrutinized and verified by Indian agencies. The ministry had said that only those people are brought back to India who are confirmed to be Indian citizens.
