A ceasefire is in force between America and Iran and talks are going on between the two countries, but despite this the tension has not completely ended. On Monday, the US military attacked Iran’s missile launch sites and ships around the Strait of Hormuz in southern Iran. According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), this action against Iran has been taken in self-defense.
CENTCOM spokesman Timothy Hawkins said that American troops were under threat from the Iranian army, so action was taken in southern Iran. He said that in the American attacks, those places were targeted from where missiles could be fired. Apart from this, those Iranian ships which were trying to lay mines in the sea were also attacked.
There have been attacks in ceasefire earlier also
America says that it is exercising restraint during the ceasefire, but will continue to take necessary steps for the safety of its soldiers. Even before this, even after the implementation of ceasefire, there has been tension and military action between America and Iran many times.
Even in the beginning of May, America had attacked Iran’s military bases. America alleged that the Iranian army had attacked American warships passing through the Strait of Hormuz without any provocation with missiles, drones and small boats. After this, President Donald Trump gave permission to the US Army to retaliate.
Trump’s statement regarding uranium
Earlier, US President Donald Trump gave a big statement regarding Iran’s nuclear program. He said that the highly enriched uranium possessed by Iran will either have to be handed over to America or it will have to be destroyed. Trump said that uranium can be destroyed in Iran itself or by taking it to some other safe place.
Trump wrote on the social media platform Truth Social that this entire process will be monitored in the presence of the Atomic Energy Commission or any similar institution. Last week, Trump had said that America will not allow Iran to keep this uranium with itself. American officials are now using No dust, no dollars. This means that unless Iran removes about 1000 pounds (about 453 kg) of enriched uranium, it will not get the benefit of any economic relief or agreement.
