There are many mythological and mysterious stories associated with this sacred cave and the natural ice formation here, which is still a puzzle for science. Let us know some very unique and special things related to Baba Amarnath’s cave.

Why is Amarnath cave special?

Amarnath cave is situated at an altitude of about 3,888 meters (12,756 feet) above sea level. This place is located in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir and is considered one of the most prominent holy pilgrimage sites of Lord Shiva. This natural cave built amidst snow covered mountains is famous all over the world for its divinity and religious importance. Every year a Shivalinga of ice is formed naturally here, which is worshiped by devotees as Baba Barfani. The most important thing is that this Shivalinga is not made by any human being, but is formed naturally and increases and decreases with time.

Recognition is related to Amar Katha

According to religious belief, Lord Shiva searched for a place where no third living being existed to tell the secret of immortality to Mother Parvati. For this, he left his vehicle Nandi, Chandrama, Nag, Gana and all his other companions at different places and finally reached the cave of Amarnath and narrated the immortal story. It is said that the two pigeons present in the cave at that time also heard this story and got the blessing of immortality. Even today many devotees consider the sight of pigeons around the cave as auspicious.

How is Shivalinga made of natural ice?

The water drops dripping from the roof of Amarnath cave gradually freeze due to extreme cold. Shivalinga made of natural ice is prepared by this process. According to religious belief, its size increases and decreases with the phases of the moon, which makes it even more mysterious.

Why is Amarnath the center of faith for millions of devotees?

Baba Amarnath Dham is not just a pilgrimage but is considered a symbol of reverence, faith and spiritual energy. Despite difficult roads, every year lakhs of devotees from India and abroad come to see Baba Barfani.
