Alpha Review: Whenever the name of Yash Raj Films’ spy universe comes up, the roar of Salman Khan in ‘Tiger’, the swag of Hrithik Roshan in ‘War’ and the amazing stunts of Shahrukh Khan in ‘Pathan’ come before our eyes. There has always been ‘male dominance’ in this universe, where only the hero had the responsibility to save the country. Although Alia Bhatt had won everyone’s heart by playing a spy in ‘Raazi’, but generally in these big spy films, the work of the girls was limited only to adding glamor, showing char latke-jhatkas and dancing on the songs with the hero. But this time Aditya Chopra and director Shiv Rawail have turned the tables. For the first time, two lionesses like Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh have entered this spy universe with the film ‘Alpha’. Who is not only breaking the bones of the enemies, but is also destroying this mail-dominated espionage style of Bollywood.
In simple words, ‘Alpha’ is a very personal, horrifying and hair-raising story of betrayal, revenge and survival, moving away from the well-worn nationalistic formula of patriotism, which proves to be a number one value-for-money deal for the lovers of spy films. But what Aliya And Sharvari together has been able to compensate for the huge stardom of Salman and Shahrukh? After ‘Animal’, has Bobby Deol’s dreaded villain avatar been able to create chaos in the theaters this time too? To know the answers to all these questions, you will have to read this complete review.
Story
The story of this film is not like any government mission or a spy game hidden in files, but there is a very deep pain hidden behind it. The center point of the story is Sita (Alia Bhatt), who was kidnapped in her childhood by the extremely cruel and vicious Fateh Singh (Bobby Deol). Fateh did not bring up Sita with any pampering, rather he has molded her into a living weapon who only knows how to create havoc. But as Sita grows up, she understands the purpose of her life, she has to free herself from the slavery of this system and Fateh and snatch her life back. The fight that once started for the security of the country, gradually becomes Sita’s mission to keep herself alive, get justice and complete her revenge.
Sita is supported by Sharvari in this very dangerous and deadly mission. To know what happens next, you will have to go and watch Alpha in the theatre.
Stars of ‘Alpha’
How is the movie?
In the script of ‘Alpha’, the makers have inserted such strange twists and turns of betrayal and deception that for a moment you will think that you have known the climax, but the next moment the film will give you such a big shock that you will jump out of your seat.
The biggest victory of ‘Alpha’ is that this film completely distances itself from the old mistakes and typical patterns of its spy universe. Here you will not see any such ‘immortal’ hero who single-handedly wipes out the entire army without suffering a single scratch. Here the hero also gets hurt, he bleeds and he also gets mentally broken. The depth given to Alia’s character in the film is amazing. The pace of the film is so fast that you won’t even get time to eat popcorn. The suspense meter which starts rising from the first frame stops only at the climax.
Direction and visuals
Director Shiv Rawail, who made cult series like ‘The Railway Men’, has shown his magic here too. He has not made the film excessively loud or a spectacle with cars flying in the air. Shiv Rawail’s entire focus has been on one-on-one fighting. Looking at the action scenes of the film, it seems as if the people in front really felt pain after every punch and kick.
In terms of visuals, the film looks of international level. The action scenes shot at different locations and the camera work are so amazing that every frame appears sparkling on the theater screen. The background score also helps in doubling the drama of the scene.
Alia and Sharvari
acting
Alia Bhatt (Sita) has once again proved why she is the best actress of this era. The anger, pain and fire of revenge that he has shown through his eyes in the role of a dreaded killer is awe-inspiring. His agility in action scenes and his depth in emotional scenes are the biggest USP of the film.
Talking about Sharvari Wagh, if you are thinking that Sharvari will pale in comparison to Alia, then you are absolutely wrong. Sharvari has given tough competition to Alia frame-to-frame. Be it action or emotion, the tuning and jugalbandhi between the two seems so natural that it does not seem anywhere that anyone is trying to steal footage from each other. The swag of both sets the screen on fire.
After Abrar of ‘Animal’, the acting shown by Bobby Deol in the role of Fateh is really enough to make the audience sitting in the theater sweat. Whenever Bobby comes on screen, an atmosphere of fear is automatically created in the background.
Actor Anil Kapoor has given his entire life to his small but very strong role. His solid acting gives a strong support to the story of the film. The rest of the supporting cast has also done full justice to their work.
see or not
In order to make its story a little dark and emotional, this film becomes more serious than necessary in some scenes. There is a lack of light relief scenes in the entire film. Although the climax is full of intense action, the last few minutes seem a bit rushed in order to wrap up all the twists.
Overall, ‘Alpha’ is not just a new episode of Yash Raj Spy Universe, but it is a film that gives a new and completely new perspective to this entire universe. This film is a slap on the face of male-dominated action films, which proves that when girls pick up guns and fists, the level of destruction on screen doubles. Alia-Sharvari’s amazing acting, Shiv Rawail’s realistic direction and Bobby Deol’s villainy together have the power to make your weekend completely worth the money.
