The heat wave continues across Europe. The heat continues to wreak havoc in France, Switzerland, Spain, Germany, Greece, Poland, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Hungary and Slovenia as well as in Italy. The mercury has crossed 40 in 15 cities of Italy including Rome, Florence, Milan and Bologna. Level 3 “Red Alert” has been issued here. These are those cities which are crowded with tourists in summer, but this year the condition of these cities is bad.

Even schools and colleges are closed due to heat. This alert indicates an emergency situation, in which there is health risk not only for the people of vulnerable groups but also for the healthy people involved in outdoor activities.

Authorities have advised residents and visitors to avoid direct sunlight between 11 am and 6 pm and exercise extra caution, especially the elderly and those with underlying health conditions.

Life disrupted due to extreme heat

The scorching heat in Italy has not only disrupted life but has also affected the travel plans of tourists. With temperatures reaching near 40 degrees Celsius in many countries, authorities have issued high-level alerts.

Activities at famous places have been reduced and transportation has also been disrupted. Italy Many cities of India are very busy at this time due to tourism. This year their numbers also seem to be less.

The sudden increase in heat around June 21 has also raised concerns about early and prolonged extreme weather across the continent.

Red warning issued in UK also

In the United Kingdom, a red warning has been issued for extreme heat in parts of southern England, the Midlands and south Wales. The temperature is expected to reach 38 degrees Celsius.

Rail operators have appealed to people to avoid non-essential travel as heat-related disruptions could impact train operations. Officials have also warned about possible threats to life due to poor conditions.

‘High danger’ situation in Switzerland

Switzerland has been experiencing heat for a long time, the authorities have increased the danger level in many areas to 4, which is considered “high danger”.

The heatwave has also worsened drought conditions, especially in the northern parts of the country, with some areas still under “extreme danger” warnings, many areas experiencing persistently high temperatures and no immediate relief in sight.

Spain’s weather agency has issued red and orange alerts in several areas, warning that temperatures could exceed 39 to 40 degrees Celsius, with some areas expected to reach 44 degrees. The heatwave is expected to last until at least mid-week, affecting both mainland Spain and Majorca.

Similarly, Germany is struggling with extreme heat, with temperatures expected to reach 41 degrees Celsius in some western and south-western areas. Extreme weather has raised safety concerns, with reports of drownings as people sought relief in lakes and bodies of water.

Danger of forest fire increases

The temperature in Greece has gone above 40 degrees Celsius, and the risk of forest fire has also increased. Authorities have ordered the evacuation of people from parts of Evia island as emergency services work to control a major fire. Last summer, the extreme heat reduced access to popular sites in Athens, such as the Acropolis, during the afternoon rush hour.

High-level heat warning continues in many other European countries including Poland, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Hungary and Slovenia.

Temperatures are expected to rise again in the coming days, so much of the continent is on alert, and travelers are being asked to plan flexibly and prioritize safety during their travels.
