A complaint has been filed in Mumbai regarding allegations of alleged digital manipulation and showing fake popularity on social media. Bombay High Court lawyer Arvind Singh has submitted a memorandum to the Mumbai Police Commissioner demanding a cyber forensic investigation into the alleged artificial increase and digital manipulation in the followers of the Instagram account Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).
It has been claimed in the complaint that the number of followers of the concerned Instagram account has repeatedly seen abnormal increase and decrease. In support of this, screenshots, screen recording and an open source observation report prepared by a cyber expert have also been submitted to the police.
Demand for fair investigation
Complainant Arvind Singh says that if the popularity of a social media account is artificially inflated, it can influence or mislead the common people as well as public personalities like social activist Sonam Wangchuk. Therefore, a technical and impartial investigation of the entire matter is necessary.
the truth needs to come out
Arvind Singh says that his aim is not to directly accuse any person or organization, but to bring out the truth by getting the entire matter investigated by a competent cyber agency on the basis of available digital evidence, so that transparency and public trust is maintained on the social media platform.
According to the complainant, in this case the Mumbai Police had issued a notice to his law firm and called him to record his statement. Later, citing the procedure related to jurisdiction, the police asked to wait. They claim that the investigation into the matter is ongoing.
What did the cyber expert say?
In this case, cyber expert Pramendra Sharma says that on the request of the law firm, he did an open-source analysis of CJP’s publicly available data and live follower counts of the Instagram account. According to him, during the investigation an unusually sharp increase and decrease in the number of followers was observed. He says that under normal circumstances, followers who join any movement or campaign do not unfollow them so fast. They also claimed that Instagram algorithms and possible third-party social media marketing activities were also studied.
Complainant’s demand
Now the complainant has demanded that the Mumbai Police should investigate the entire matter in depth and find out that if there is any kind of artificial follower increase, then who are the people behind it, who is funding it and whether any third-party medium has been used. He asked whether any foreign power is behind them because Sanatan Dharma and Lord Shri Ram are also being insulted on their platform.
Sonam Wangchug had shared the post
The big thing in this matter is that Sonam Wangchug herself had posted a video on her Instagram on June 2, 2026 and said that she was associating with CJP because she herself had told CJP founder Abhijit Deepke to prove that there is no foreign power behind CJP and by showing insider accounts of her Instagram accounts, Wangchug had said that she has more than 22 million followers.
