
The troubles of Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Majithia have increased. Lookout Circular (LOC) has been issued against Bikram Singh Majithia. Punjab Police has taken this action. Now Majithia will not be able to leave the country and go abroad. Along with this, the police have intensified the raids by forming a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for his arrest. On Monday, raids were conducted at many places in search of Majithia.
This action has been taken against Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia in the case of uproar at Majitha police station in Amritsar and forcibly releasing a person from police custody. In fact, Bikram Majithia, along with Akali Dal supporters, is accused of forcibly releasing a booth agent from the custody of Punjab Police from Majitha police station during the recent civic elections held on May 26. The booth agent of Akali Dal was arrested by the police for assault and creating ruckus at the polling booth.
Raids at several locations in Amritsar and Chandigarh
Police allege that government records were tampered with during this period. After this, the police registered a case against Majithia and other supporters and got a lookout circular issued through the Home Ministry in view of the possibility of them fleeing the country. Police are continuously conducting raids in search of Majithia. Police have so far raided many places in Amritsar and Chandigarh in search of Bikram Majithia. At the same time, Shiromani Akali Dal has termed this action as political vendetta and revenge.
Who is Bikram Majithia?
The Majithia family belongs to the politics of India’s second oldest party, Shiromani Akali Dal. Majithia is the brother-in-law of SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal and brother of former Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal. Bikram was married to Ganive Grewal in November 2009 and has two sons. Bikram Majithia has been a former cabinet minister in the Punjab government. Before the Mann rule of Punjab, Congress’s Channi government had also issued a lookout circular against Majithia. The government had taken this action in the drugs racket case worth Rs. 6 thousand crores.
