May 22, 2026 by Uma Shankar

There is a relief news for the people of Delhi. Now passengers will have to pay much less fare to and from Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport than before. Delhi government has started ride-sharing cab service in the capital, through which passengers traveling in the same direction will be able to share the cab and the travel cost can be reduced by half.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated

In a program organized at Delhi Secretariat, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta flagged off the Uber Share service in the presence of Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa. The government says that this initiative will prove to be a big step towards reducing traffic jams and pollution in the capital.

Airport passengers will get direct benefits

According to Delhi Government, IGI Airport is among the busiest transport hubs in the country. Lakhs of people travel here every day. Through the new ride-sharing facility, passengers will be able to book shared cabs on the Uber app. The multi-level car parking (MLCP) complex of the airport will provide shared travel facility to the passengers.

The government estimates that about 7 lakh passengers will benefit from this service. If two or three people travel together, their travel costs will reduce significantly.

Emphasis on reducing traffic and pollution

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the Delhi government is continuously working to promote technology-based and environment-friendly transport system. He said that shared travel will reduce the number of vehicles on the roads, which will reduce both traffic jams and pollution.

Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that to reduce pollution in Delhi, it is very important for people to adopt shared transportation. He appealed to Delhiites to use ride-sharing services more to travel to and from the airport.

The pressure of thousands of vehicles every day will reduce

According to the government, if 20 to 30 percent of people traveling on the airport route also adopt shared travel, then the pressure of thousands of vehicles on Delhi’s roads every day can be reduced. This will save fuel and also reduce foreign exchange expenses.

Delhi government says that this initiative is an important step towards developing a smart, affordable and sustainable urban transport system in the capital.
