Air India gave big relief to the passengers! Expenses of people going abroad will reduce

July 3, 2026 by Uma Shankar

There is news of relief for travelers traveling abroad. Air India has reduced fuel surcharge on its long-haul flights to America, Canada, Europe, Britain and Australia. The new rates have come into effect from July 1, 2026. Due to this, tickets for passengers traveling on these routes may become cheaper than before.

Decision taken after falling crude oil prices

Air India had imposed the fuel surcharge in April 2026 following a sharp increase in the prices of crude oil and Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) in the international market due to increased tensions in West Asia. At that time the operating costs of airlines had increased significantly. Now after the softening of oil prices, the company has decided to provide relief to the passengers.

How much was the reduction?

Under the new system, fuel surcharge on flights going to North America and Australia has been reduced from $280 to $200 per ticket. Whereas for Europe and Britain this fee has been reduced from $205 to $125 per ticket. This means that fuel surcharge on some routes has been reduced by up to 39%.

No changes on domestic flights

At present, this relief has been given only on selected long distance international flights. There has been no change in the fuel surcharge applicable on Air India domestic flights and other international routes. The company is keeping an eye on the situation and can take further decisions based on the trend of oil prices.

Passengers may get relief

Aviation industry experts say that aviation turbine fuel accounts for about 40 to 45 percent of the total operating cost of airlines. In such a situation, the benefit of cheaper fuel may gradually be reflected in the ticket fare also. It is believed that if crude oil prices remain controlled in the global market, then in the coming time other airlines may also consider reducing fuel surcharge.
