AI will strengthen IT companies, there is no threat: Nandan Nilekani

June 23, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Regarding AI, it is being said that people are losing their jobs because of AI. In the coming time, more people may lose their jobs due to AI. Especially for IT companies, this can prove to be more disastrous. But amidst all this, what Nandan Nilekani of the country’s leading IT company Infosys has said is different from everyone else.

Infosys co-founder and chairman Nandan Nilekani said on Tuesday that AI will not replace IT companies, but will make them more powerful. He said that the company is ready to take advantage of the huge opportunity of AI-first services worth $400 billion by 2030. Addressing shareholders at the company’s 45th Annual General Meeting (AGM), Nilekani discussed the existential question facing the IT industry due to rapid technological changes.

Fully ready for AI

According to Nandan Nilekani, even three years after the introduction of Generative AI (GenAI), Infosys is more relevant than ever and is well positioned for the coming decade. We are increasing our productivity by adopting better coding tools, but there is still a lot of work left to do in the field of software development. He said that there exists a gap in the use of AI among large enterprise customers and the biggest opportunity is to bridge it. Nandan Nilekani said, AI will not replace companies like ours. This will further strengthen companies that move with purpose and adapt quickly.

Fast work on AI projects

He explained that enterprise solutions require rigorous testing, robust architecture, solid cyber security and strict data governance, which cannot be done by relying solely on an external platform. The AI revolution has necessitated the modernization of legacy systems, giving Infosys an opportunity to take advantage of this structural change. He said customers trust Infosys to draw on its experience to help them navigate the complexities of enterprise AI. Also, the company is working on AI-related projects with 90 percent of its top 200 customers.
