July 22, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Now AI will be taught in government schools of Punjab. The state government is implementing Artificial Intelligence (AI) based curriculum in government schools. School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains announced this. From Thursday, AI will be taught as a main subject from classes 1 to 12. New textbooks will also be distributed to students within the next 15 days. He said that the children of Punjab will now learn modern technology at par with the students of countries like China and South Korea.

Harjot Singh Bains said that AI education is being promoted at school level across the world. China has implemented it from primary classes itself, and now Punjab is going to become the leading state in this direction. The curriculum will be updated every six months to keep students abreast of the latest developments in AI. Apart from this, arrangements will also be made for live online classes and regular teacher training.

There should be responsible use of AI – Government

In this course, children from classes 1 to 5 will be taught about the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Special emphasis will be placed on basic AI, AI skills, innovation skills and practical use of technology in larger classes. On completion of the course, students will also get a certificate, which will help them in availing higher education and employment opportunities.

Children have to be prepared for the future – Bains

Harjot Singh Bains said that the Punjab government is preparing children for future needs. Artificial intelligence (AI) will change the nature of some jobs, but will also create new employment opportunities. He accused the Central Government of not taking proper initiative regarding AI in education and said that Punjab is working towards becoming the leading state of the country in this field. And now soon other states will also start adopting it.

Use of AI will increase transparency-Sisodia

Former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia, who was present at the event, said that in the age of artificial intelligence, the ability to ask questions and develop understanding rather than just memorizing is essential. He further said that artificial intelligence should also be used to make the examination system more transparent and prevent problems like paper leaks.
