America and Iran have agreed to forget their differences in Doha and resolve the ‘Hormuz Strait’ dispute. According to the report of ‘Axios’, a senior American official said that the two countries will meet in Doha on Tuesday and will discuss to resolve the ongoing dispute over the ‘Strait of Hormuz’. A senior American official said, we have decided to stop all types of military action.
Another official said that both sides will step back for now and ships will be able to move without any restrictions as technical talks will continue. US officials and a third source with knowledge of the matter confirmed the meeting to be held on Tuesday.
This fragile cease-fire that took place 11 days ago is now in danger, as US President Donald Trump has threatened to restart the war and ‘finish the job’ if Iran does not comply. Meanwhile, according to media reports, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday (local time) that under the initial peace agreement, Iran has full rights to manage traffic in the ‘Strait of Hormuz’.
He said that he does not agree with the US arguments that the agreement does not give control to Iran and that the movement of ships in international waterways should be free from any obstruction.
This claim of Tehran has come after several days of retaliatory attacks with America. The attacks began when Iran attacked a ship trying to cross the strait off the coast of Oman. Tehran wants the ships to use a different route along its coast. He warned the ships not to use that other route.
According to the Wall Street Journal, in the agreement signed by Trump in early June, the responsibility of opening the Strait of Hormuz has been entrusted to Iran. It states that the Islamic Republic of Iran will do its best to ensure the safe passage of commercial ships and that Iran, in dialogue with other countries in the region, will determine the rules for the future of the administration and maritime services of the Strait of Hormuz.
