After MLA-MP, now it’s the turn of office, Delhi office may go out of TMC’s hands

June 10, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Trinamool Congress (TMC) continues to face troubles. After the defeat in West Bengal, rebellious attitudes are visible everywhere in the party. First in the Assembly and now in the Lok Sabha, the rebel faction of the party has staked claim to form a separate faction. Many big leaders even resigned. Now the news is that the rebel group has also presented its claim regarding the office in Delhi and a letter has been written to Abhishek Banerjee to vacate it.

It is reported quoting TMC sources that a letter has been written to Abhishek Banerjee on behalf of rebel MP Partho Bhowmik to vacate the office of Trinamool Congress in Delhi. The office of All India Trinamool Congress runs at 20 Rajendra Prasad Road, Bhowmik’s official residence in Delhi. Bhowmik is currently a member of the rebel group of TMC.

Case regarding assembly LoP in court

Amidst internal disputes in the party, the matter regarding Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the state has reached the court. TMC has challenged in the Calcutta High Court the decision of Assembly Speaker Rathindra Bose, in which rebel party leader Ritabrata Banerjee has been recognized as LOP. The party alleged that this decision is against parliamentary traditions and rules.

The petition filed by senior advocate Sirsanya Bandopadhyay is likely to be heard in the single bench of Justice Krishna Rao on Thursday (June 11). In the petition, the party has demanded from the court to judicially review the decision of Speaker Bose and to recognize senior leader Shobhandev Chattopadhyay, nominated by former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, as the Leader of Opposition.

58 out of 80 TMC MLAs rebel

However, last week, 58 out of 80 Trinamool Congress MLAs went against the party and supported rebel leader Ritabrata Banerjee. Ritabrata was expelled from the party due to anti-party activities. However, just 2 days after being expelled, he staked claim for the post of Leader of Opposition in the House with the support of 58 MLAs. While another expelled MLA Sandipan Saha was recognized by the Speaker as the Assistant Leader of Opposition.

The rebellious attitude is visible not only in the Assembly but also in the Lok Sabha. Many rebel TMC MPs recently held a meeting at the house of Union Minister and party observer Bhupendra Yadav. State Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari also attended the meeting. After this meeting, senior party MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar handed over a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. It was told that this letter has the signatures of 20 TMC MPs. Senior MP Kakoli Ghosh Dasditar claimed to form a separate faction in the Lok Sabha.

Trinamool has a total of 28 Lok Sabha MPs. The names of those who signed are not clear. However, sources say that apart from Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, it includes Partho Bhowmik, Prasun Banerjee, Asit Mal, Sharmila Sarkar, Jagdish Basunia, Kalipada Soren, Arup Chakraborty, Rachna Banerjee and Dev. Earlier on Monday, TMC Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Shekhar Roy had resigned as MP and from the party.
