Before the Bengal Assembly elections, BJP had promised to selectively expel infiltrators from the state. Subhendu Adhikari’s government has started implementing the promises of BJP. The process of deporting infiltrators in the state or sending them across the border to their respective addresses has started. The state government has given instructions to set up holding centers in every district. As soon as someone is identified as an illegal infiltrator, he will be sent to that holding centre.
During the election campaign in the state, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had repeatedly said that illegal intruder Will be sent to Bangladesh and after coming to power, the Chief Minister of the state Subhendu Adhikari has also said the same thing. He has said that now the central law will be implemented in the state and the infiltrators will be directly handed over to BSF.
‘Holding centers’ will be built in every district
State Secretariat Nabanna has ordered to set up holding centers in every district, so that people caught on suspicion of being Bangladeshi or Rohingya can be kept. Suspects can be kept in these holding centers for 30 days. The state government has said that not only those caught on suspicion of being infiltrators, but also those previously caught and jailed and those in the process of being deported from the country can be kept there.

The central government had already issued instructions to identify the infiltrators and send them back. Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari recently held a press conference and said that the previous government did not follow the instructions of the Centre. After his government came to power, related laws have been implemented in the state. This time, those who are not involved in CAA or the Citizenship Amendment Act will be immediately identified and arrested. They will be directly handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF). BSF will work to send them back to their respective countries. After the announcement by Shubhendu Adhikari, the state government has also issued instructions.
Bengal government is strict on Bangladeshi infiltrators
It has been said in Nabanna’s instructions, the process of sending back Bangladeshis or Rohingyas living illegally in this state is being started. For this, holding centers will be created in the districts. These centers will be used to house illegal infiltrators and foreign prisoners released from the jails of this state. Necessary steps are being taken to set up the centre.
An instruction in this regard has been sent by Nabanna to the DG of State Police, District Magistrate of every district and Superintendent of Police. This instruction has also been sent to the commissioners of every police commissionerate including Kolkata.
It is worth noting that on May 2, 2025, the Foreigners Division of the Union Home Ministry had issued an eight-page instruction regarding Rohingya and Bangladeshi infiltrators. There was also mention of building a holding center to keep infiltrators.
According to the central directive, if law enforcement officials suspect that a person is not an Indian citizen, he can be arrested. He can be kept in the holding center for 30 days. Within 30 days, the documents will be verified to verify whether the person is an Indian or not. The final decision in this regard will be taken by the concerned District Magistrate or District Collector rank officer.
Shubhendu government on detect, delete and deportation mission
The West Bengal government has adopted a policy of ‘detect, delete and deport’ for illegal immigrants. It has been explained in the Central Guidelines how this process will be completed. The Center has asked the police to form a Special Task Force (STF) in every state, which will identify illegal immigrants and deport them to their countries. The biometric information of those identified as infiltrators in the ‘holding centre’ will be collected and uploaded on the central portal.
After this, they will be handed over to the Border Guard Force. He will be ‘blacklisted’ in India. The guidelines also state that in emergency situations, the border guard or coast guard can take illegal immigrants from the ‘holding center’ after completion of investigation. They can be sent directly outside the borders of their country.
