
Preparations are being made for major action after the fire incident that took place on Wednesday in Haujrani area of Malviya Nagar area of Delhi. Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu held an emergency review meeting with senior officials of the Delhi government and related departments. In the meeting, LG directed that a one-month special fire safety campaign will start in Delhi from tomorrow, under which all the hotels, guest houses, nursing homes, coaching centers and sensitive buildings of Delhi will be inspected.
The Lieutenant Governor has clearly said that during this period, strict action like sealing will be taken against the institutions violating the fire rules. The campaign will be monitored by the Chief Secretary and Police Commissioner. LG has instructed officials to ensure zero negligence and complete accountability. After the incident, LG Taranjit Singh Sandhu along with Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood had called this emergency review meeting. In which orders have been given to take strict action against those who violate fire related rules.
Apart from this, the Home Department will be its nodal department and will lead the campaign of enforcement and prevention of rules on a large scale. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered to investigate this tragic incident and determine accountability. The purpose of this meeting was to prepare a comprehensive, multi-departmental action plan for prevention of fire accidents, enforcement of rules and immediate relief to the victims after the fire in Malviya Nagar.
Fire broke out in 5 storey building, 21 people died
The fire that broke out in the Lemon Green restaurant was so terrible that within no time it engulfed the entire 5-storey building. ‘Flourish Stay B&B’ hotel was also in the same building. Whose 25 rooms were completely burnt to ashes. So far 21 people have died in the accident, while 37 people are injured. Among the dead are 17 foreign nationals. These are said to include citizens of Nigeria, Mozambique, Bangladesh and Liberia. Many foreign citizens had come to Delhi for the treatment of their family members and were staying in this hotel. It is also feared that the death toll may increase as the condition of some of the injured remains critical.

A magisterial inquiry has been ordered under the District Magistrate of the concerned area to investigate this tragic incident and fix accountability. Chief Secretary, Commissioner (MCD), Principal Secretary (Home), Secretary (Tourism), Secretary (Health and Family Welfare) were present in this meeting. The hotel owner is absconding and the police has started a search. Apart from this, the cause of the fire has not been known yet and the investigation is ongoing.
