Accountability should be fixed for how NEET paper was leaked: Supreme Court

May 29, 2026 by Uma Shankar

The Supreme Court made strict comments during the hearing on the NEET paper leak case. The court said that accountability should be fixed for how the NEET paper was leaked. If all the recommendations were implemented then how did this happen, what is the truth? The court told the chairman of the committee that we want to ask you that you were originally a member of the expert committee, how much monitoring of the implementation was done? How did this failure happen?

The Supreme Court said, if this incident has happened despite your monitoring based on the recommendations of the HPC, then there is a problem with the recommendation itself. Or maybe there was no monitoring at all. The Supreme Court told SG Mehta that this is a very sensitive matter. How did this happen? The truth should come out.

We recommended strengthening NTA

During the hearing, Dr. Radhakrishnan told the Supreme Court that we had given 60 suggestions. Most of the first 60 have been implemented. Some are still under process. NEET UG examination was conducted satisfactorily in 2025. There were incidents of power failure in some centres, otherwise the recommendations were implemented and the examination was successful. We had recommended strengthening NTA.

All these were taken care of for Re-NEET exam

He said that the question was about manipulation of papers. Many measures have been implemented, but I assure you that all these have been taken into consideration for the Re-NEET exam to be held next month. On this, Justice Narasimha asked whether the committee meets regularly? Radhakrishnan replied- Yes. Justice Narasimha said that the real problem will not be solved until real accountability is fixed.

There has never been a problem in UPSC, you have to understand this: SC

Justice Narasimha said, until we fix the responsibility, you will not get the correct information. This is a very sensitive matter. SG said that we are looking into the issues related to youth and the government is very serious about this. Justice Narasimha said, there has never been any problem in UPSC, you have to understand this.

Capacity is not in the individual, but in the institution: Supreme Court

SG said that railway examinations also. The Speaker did not say some things because the system was already in place. We have made some new arrangements for the examination to be held on 21st, which is being monitored at the highest level. The Supreme Court said, the problem of most of our institutions is ad-hocism. Knowledge does not spread. The capability is not in the individual, but in the organization.

What did Justice Narasimha record in his order?

Justice Narasimha recorded in the order that the HRD Ministry will file an affidavit. In which it will be told how and in what manner the examination process and completion will be done from now on. It will also be explained how to establish institutional memory of continuity through the appointment of expert personnel and institutional diversity. The effort is to ensure that NTA has the physical and intellectual resources available to conduct the examinations in 2024 or 2026. The affidavit has to be filed before July 2. SG said that the Prime Minister himself is monitoring. On this the Supreme Court said that if this is happening then it is very sad.
