May 23, 2026 by Uma Shankar

8th Pay Commission Update: Big news has come for central government employees and pensioners. The 8th Pay Commission, as part of its nationwide tour, has scheduled an important meeting on June 22 and 23 in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. In this meeting, the demands of central government institutions, employee unions and organizations will be discussed in detail.

The objective of the commission is to directly listen to the problems and suggestions of the employees so that the needs of the employees can be kept in mind while preparing the new pay structure. The Commission has clarified that to participate in the Lucknow meeting, employee unions of Uttar Pradesh will have to apply online on the NIC portal by June 10, 2026.

The Commission has made the appointment process completely digital and transparent. Unions will first have to upload their demand letter on the official portal of the Commission. After successful submission of indent, a unique Memo ID will be issued. Through this Memo ID, unions will be able to take appointments for meetings.

How much was the salary increased last time?

Meanwhile, the Commission has asked all the central employee unions and pensioners’ associations to submit their recommendations and demands by 31 May 2026. Big employee organizations of the country like NC-JCM and AIDEF are busy preparing their final demands. This time the biggest discussion is about the fitment factor. Fitment factor is the same formula on the basis of which the new basic salary of the employees is decided. A fitment factor of 2.57 was implemented in the 7th Pay Commission, due to which the minimum basic salary was Rs 18 thousand.

Now employee unions are demanding fitment factor from 2.86 to 3.83. If the government accepts these demands then the minimum basic salary of entry level employees can reach Rs 50 thousand per month. In such a situation, lakhs of employees across the country will keep an eye on the meetings of the 8th Pay Commission in the coming months.
