
30 Indian citizens who were living illegally in America and driving commercial trucks have been arrested. The arrests were made during ‘Operation Checkmate’ conducted by Border Patrol agents in the Yuma Sector of Arizona between May 11 and 15. The arrested people will now be sent back to India. A total of 52 people have been arrested under this operation.
According to US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), these people were caught during the special operation Operation Checkmate conducted in Yuma Sector of Arizona. All the arrested persons will be sent back to their countries after the completion of the legal process.
Total 52 people arrested
CBP issued a statement saying that in the operation between May 11 and 15, officers arrested 52 people who were living in the US illegally. Of these, 36 people were found driving semi-trucks. The statement said that out of the 36 truck drivers arrested, 30 are Indian citizens, while the other six are citizens of Mexico, El Salvador and Russia.
Many people did not have valid driving license
Investigation revealed that some drivers had commercial driving licenses issued from states like California, New York, Washington and Virginia. Whereas many people did not have any kind of valid driving license. Most of the people arrested had Employment Authorization Documents, which were issued during the administration of former President Joe Biden, but their validity had now expired.
Objective of Operation Checkmade
Officials said all those detained are being processed under federal immigration laws and will be deported. Operation Checkmade aims to enforce immigration laws and identify illegal persons driving commercial vehicles across the country.
