July 19, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Joe Root vs India: Whenever there is talk of class and consistency in the cricket world, the name of England’s star batsman Joe Root comes at the top. Even in the recent ODI series against India, Root has performed a feat which no batsman had been able to do till date in the history of ODI cricket. During the entire series, the Indian bowlers got tired of adopting every strategy, but could not succeed in sending Joe Root to the pavilion even once.

Joe Root broke the world record

In the last ODI match of the series at the historic ground of Lord’s, Joe Root played a brilliant inning of unbeaten 74 runs in just 48 balls. This entire series was in the name of Joe Root. Before this last match, he had played excellent innings of 76 not out in the opening match of the series and 99 not out in the second match. That means, in this entire series of 3 matches, Root faced a total of 257 balls and scored 249 runs, that too without getting out. With this, he has made the world record of scoring the most runs without getting out in an ODI series. He left behind England’s Jos Buttler’s record of 248 runs.

Most runs without getting out in ODI series

  • 249 runs – Joe Root (vs India, 2026)
  • 248 runs – Jos Buttler (vs Netherlands, 2022)
  • 241 runs – Ricky Ponting (vs New Zealand, 2007)
  • 234 runs – Javed Miandad (vs India, 1982)
  • 212 runs – MS Dhoni (vs England, 2011)

Another record created in England cricket history

Joe Root has been scoring runs continuously not only in this series but in ODI cricket for some time. On the basis of his unmatched form, he has made another big record in the history of England cricket. Root has now become the first England batsman to score 50 or more in 6 consecutive innings in ODI cricket. At the same time, he has not even been out in the last 4 innings.

Joe Root’s last 6 ODI innings:

  • 61 runs (90 balls)
  • 75 runs (90 balls)
  • 111* runs (108 balls)
  • 76* runs (76 balls)
  • 99* runs (133 balls)
