
Under the leadership of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi government will organize Mother Yamuna Bank Cleanliness Campaign at 28 ghats of Yamuna river on Sunday, June 14. This mega campaign to be organized with the message of a resolution – Clean Yamuna will be an important initiative in the direction of returning the Yamuna River to its glory, cleaning the river banks, increasing public awareness towards environmental protection and giving public participation the form of a broad public movement.
Chief Minister in this campaign Rekha Gupta She herself will lead the cleanliness campaign by being present at Thokar No. 14 Geeta Colony Ghat and will strengthen the resolve of clean, pure and life-giving Yamuna by donating labor along with thousands of citizens. Delhi MPs, government ministers and other dignitaries will also participate in this campaign.
This special campaign will be organized at the ghats of Yamuna from 6 am. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that Yamuna is not just a river but the cultural, religious and environmental heritage of Delhi. Protection of Yamuna and its cleanliness is not only the responsibility of the government, but also the responsibility of every citizen. This campaign is being organized with the aim of spreading this thinking to the masses and encouraging collective participation. Cleaning Yamuna is not just a one-day programme, but a continuous public campaign, in which participation of every section of the society is necessary.
Campaign will run simultaneously on 28 ghats and banks of Yamuna
According to the Chief Minister, on June 14, cleanliness and public awareness activities will be conducted simultaneously in various ghats, banks and riverfront areas of Yamuna. Under the campaign, Chilla Gaon Ghat, Nizamuddin Ghat, Thokar No. 14 Geeta Colony Ghat, Thokar No. 18 Gandhi Nagar Ghat, Old Iron Bridge Ghat, Signature Bridge-Wazirabad Ghat (East Bank), Dedh Pushta Ghat (Sonia Vihar), Chautha Pushta Ghat (Sonia Vihar), Dhakti Kunj Ghat (West Bank), Hathi Ghat at ITO Old Railway Bridge, Ramghat, Kali Ghat, Shyam Ghat, Yamuna Bank, Yamuneshwar Ghat, Wazirabad Yamuna Biodiversity Park (Right Bank), Railway Bridge Yamuna Bank, ITO Downstream Western Bank-1, ITO Downstream Western Bank-2, ITO Upstream Right Bank, Sarai Kale Khan R/B, Thokar No.-13, Kunderiya Ghat, Nigam Bodh Ghat, Eastern Bank Downstream Wazirabad and Kalindi Kunj. Cleanliness campaign will be conducted simultaneously at several major sites including downstream (Eastern Bank).
Thousands of volunteers and Delhiites will participate in this mega campaign along with about 500 social, religious, educational and voluntary organizations. To give the campaign the character of widespread public support and public participation, Delhi MPs and many senior public representatives and dignitaries will also be present at various places.
Which leader will run the campaign where?
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will be present at Thokar No. 14 Geeta Colony Ghat. Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra will participate in this campaign on Yamuna Bank. Apart from this, Speaker of Delhi Assembly Vijendra Gupta will be present at the Old Railway Bridge downstream on the eastern bank, Deputy Speaker of the Assembly Mohan Singh Bisht will be present at Dedh Pushta Sonia Vihar.
Delhi Government’s Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh will lead the campaign at Hathi Ghat located on the west bank downstream of ITO, Environment Minister Sardar Manjinder Singh at Sirsa Thokar No. 13, Social Welfare Minister Ravindra Indraj Singh on the west bank below the Signature Bridge, Development and Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra at Zero Pushta Shriradha Krishna Ghat and Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh will lead this campaign on the Old Railway Bridge upstream east bank.
Message of Yamuna conservation along with cleanliness
During the campaign, citizens will be made aware about Yamuna conservation and will be made to take a pledge that they will not throw puja materials, flower garlands and idols in the river, will not use polythene and single use plastic, will not throw old clothes, garbage and other garbage in Yamuna, will keep the river banks clean and will also make other people aware about Yamuna cleanliness. The objective of the campaign is not only to remove garbage but also to give Yamuna conservation the form of a people’s movement.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, cleanliness, environmental protection, river revitalization and public participation-based development have got a new direction across the country. Inspired by the Prime Minister’s resolve of Clean India and vision of nature conservation, Delhi Government is committed to give the form of a people’s movement to the revitalization of Yamuna. The cleanliness of Yamuna is not only a matter of environment but also our responsibility towards the coming generations. In accordance with this spirit, Delhi Government is continuously working towards making Yamuna clean, pure and uninterrupted by taking all sections of the society along.
The Chief Minister said that last year too, a massive effort was made to clean Yamuna and its ghats through the Meri Yamuna, Mera Dutva campaign. Thousands of volunteers participated in that campaign and more than 12 tons of waste was collected and disposed of scientifically. The enthusiastic public support received by the campaign proved that when government and society work together, big positive changes are possible. Taking this experience forward, this year’s campaign is being organized in a more comprehensive format.
