
25 Years Of Lagaan: ‘Lagaan’, one of the most memorable films of Indian cinema, is going to complete 25 years of its release. On this special occasion, the film will be celebrated grandly at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) to be held in Australia. The special thing about this event will be that actor and director Aamir Khan himself will be a part of this event. Before the start of the festival, a special screening of ‘Lagaan’ will be held in Melbourne on July 9, which will mark the beginning of this year’s film festival.
The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne is considered to be the largest film festival of Indian cinema held outside India. This year its 17th edition will be held from 13 August to 23 August 2026. Like every year, this time too artists, filmmakers and cinema lovers from all over the world will participate in it.
Special screening of ‘Lagaan’ will be held on 9th July
A special screening of ‘Lagaan’ will be organized at the prestigious ACMI Cinema in Melbourne on July 9, about a month before the start of the festival. Aamir Khan will also be present on this special occasion and the film festival will officially start with this program.

‘Lagaan’ is counted among the most successful and popular films of Indian cinema. It is included among the few Indian films which were nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Oscar Awards. In the last several years, the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne has become a major international platform for Indian films. So far, Shahrukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, A.R. have participated in this festival, which is being organized with the support of the Government of Victoria. Many big stars like Rahman, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Rani Mukherjee, Ram Charan, Vijay Sethupathi, Vicky Kaushal, Vijay Verma and Keerthy Suresh have participated. Festival Director Mitu Bhowmik Lange said that there cannot be a better way to start the 17th edition than celebrating 25 years of a film like ‘Lagaan’. According to him, this film is a major achievement of Indian cinema and even today inspires filmmakers and audiences around the world. He said that Aamir Khan’s coming to Melbourne will make this event even more special.
