Two major earthquakes that occurred in the South American country Venezuela on Wednesday evening caused huge devastation. There was a gap of only 39 seconds between the two earthquakes. The first earthquake was of 7.2 magnitude and its epicenter was in Carabobo state, about 20 km from the capital Caracas. A few seconds later, a second and more powerful earthquake of 7.5 magnitude occurred.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), this is the biggest earthquake in Venezuela in the last 126 years. Before this, an earthquake of 7.7 magnitude had occurred in the year 1900. USGS has warned that this earthquake may cause heavy casualties. According to the agency, the possibility of more than 10 thousand people dying is 44%, while the possibility of more than 1 lakh deaths is up to 30%.

Tsunami warning withdrawn
Following the earthquake, a tsunami warning was issued for Puerto Rico, the US and the British Virgin Islands. Danger was also said for the islands of Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire, but this warning was withdrawn after about an hour. A very rare incident related to earthquake was witnessed. Two major events took place within just 2 hours, which are usually seen once in 1,000 to 1,200 years. Two major earthquakes of almost equal strength occurred at the same place in Venezuela. At the same time, a powerful earthquake of 6.9 or more intensity occurred in Japan.
Experts say that such major earthquakes occurring in different parts of the world in such a short time is a very unusual and rare event. Venezuela is located in an area where the Caribbean and South American tectonic plates meet, so there is a risk of earthquakes here. In 1967, more than 200 people died in a 6.6 magnitude earthquake in Caracas. In the devastating earthquake of 1812, about 30 thousand people lost their lives. Now the latest earthquake is being counted among the biggest disasters in the modern history of Venezuela.
