The rebellion in Trinamool Congress (TMC) is deepening with time. Rebel MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar claimed that 2 more MPs are going to join the rebel group, taking their number in the Lok Sabha to 22. Before leaving for New Delhi from Kolkata airport, Kakoli said that his group has made an appointment to meet Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and they will demand formal recognition as a separate parliamentary faction.
Kakoli said, “We are going to Delhi for a meeting. There are 22 MPs with us. The Speaker has given us time. We will meet him on Monday and demand recognition as a separate faction.” Although he did not reveal the names of the MPs who are expected to join the group, he indicated that their names will be made public after they formally join the group.
The meeting will be held in Delhi
Kakoli said, “Those who have expressed their honest opinion about the situation in West Bengal in the last four-five years are in touch with us. Now our number has increased to 22.” He told that the meeting of rebel MPs, which was earlier to be held in Kolkata, will now be held in Delhi. Although West Bengal Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari was expected to attend it, the chances of him going to Delhi are less due to a work related to Digha-Shankarpur Development Authority.
Document of signatures of 19 MPs
These new things have come to light amid the ongoing turmoil in TMC after the West Bengal Assembly elections. Earlier this week, rebel MPs openly challenged the party leadership. At the same time, he indicated support to the BJP led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Centre.
Last Friday, a document bearing the signatures of 19 TMC MPs came to light. In this, the signatories have demanded recognition as a separate parliamentary group under the leadership of Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar. However, there has been no official confirmation from the Speaker’s Secretariat regarding receipt of this letter.
