14 countries from UAE to Thailand are desperate to buy, where is the market for BrahMos going to open?

June 22, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Till a few years ago, India was counted among the world’s biggest arms importers, but now the picture is changing. Today, there is such a defense product of India whose demand is increasing rapidly from Asia to Gulf countries. This is BrahMos supersonic cruise missile. The situation is such that since the deal with the Philippines, according to an ET report, more than 14 countries have expressed their desire to buy it. Chile is also included in this. Let us tell you in detail in which countries its market can open in the coming days and what is so special in it that everyone wants to buy it.

The first deal for BrahMos was with Philippines in the year 2022, after which Indonesia has decided to buy it, the big deal with Vietnam is in the final stages. United Arab Emirates (UAE) is also in talks with India to buy it. Now according to Reuters, Thailand and Chile have also joined the countries that have shown official interest in purchasing India’s BrahMos supersonic cruise missile. Apart from this, Malaysia and South Africa have also expressed their desire to buy it. The most interesting thing is that Russia also wants to buy it. This is special because this missile was made with the cooperation of Russia.

What is special in BrahMos?

BrahMos is a joint project of India and Russia, which is counted among the world’s fastest operational supersonic cruise missiles. Its biggest strength is its speed. It can fly at a speed of approximately three times the speed of sound i.e. Mach 2.8 to 3. Due to such high speed, the enemy air defense system is left with very little time to react. Its second major feature is its multi-role capability.

BrahMos can be launched from land, sea, submarine and fighter aircraft. This means that instead of buying different types of missiles, a country gets multiple options on a single platform. Apart from this, BrahMos is also known for its accuracy. Military experts believe that it can target enemy warships, military bases and important strategic targets in a very short time. This is the reason why countries concerned about maritime security are showing special interest in it.

Why is demand increasing so much?

China is also a major reason behind the increasing popularity of this missile. China’s increasing military activities in the South China Sea and Indo-Pacific region have increased the concern of many countries. The Philippines had first signed a BrahMos deal with India worth about $375 million so that it could better protect its maritime areas. After this Indonesia also decided to buy BrahMos. Now the big export agreement with Vietnam has also almost reached the final stage. The common concern of these three countries is China’s maritime aggression and regional security. Defense analysts believe that BrahMos is not just a weapon for these countries but a “deterrence” capability, which increases the cost of any possible aggression.

BrahMos business?

India signed a BrahMos missile deal with Vietnam in May 2026 worth about $ 620 million (about Rs 5,300 crore). With this, Vietnam has become the third country in South-East Asia to purchase BrahMos. Earlier, India had signed an agreement of $ 375 million (about Rs 3,200 crore) with the Philippines in 2022 and its delivery started from 2024. At the same time, in March 2026, Indonesia also announced to purchase BrahMos missile system.

Overall, BrahMos is no longer just a missile. It has become a symbol of India’s defense technology, strategic diplomacy and growing defense export capacity. The speed at which new countries are joining its ranks makes it clear that BrahMos can emerge as India’s largest defense export brand in the coming decade.
