
To strengthen India’s maritime security, the 138th Offshore Security Coordination Committee (OSCC) meeting was held in Ahmedabad. The meeting was presided over by Director General of the Indian Coast Guard, Parmesh Shivmani. Officials from Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force, Home Ministry, External Affairs Ministry, ONGC and many security agencies participated in this meeting. In the meeting, the security of India’s oil and gas platforms built in the sea was reviewed. Besides, the increasing threats from drones and new technologies were also discussed.
The officials stressed on strengthening the surveillance system in view of the increasing maritime activities and changing security environment in the Andaman and Nicobar region. It was also decided in the meeting that better coordination between different agencies, maritime surveillance and joint action capability will be further strengthened, so that any threat can be dealt with quickly.
Preparation to make sea security impenetrable
In the high level meeting of the 138th Offshore Security Coordination Committee held in Ahmedabad, there was a big brainstorming on drone attacks, maritime terrorism, Andaman-Nicobar security, offshore oil-gas installations and growing strategic threats in the Indian Ocean. Indian Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force and intelligence agencies prepared a future maritime security roadmap.
Special focus on strategic challenges
The meeting had a special focus on drone-based attacks, maritime terrorism, cyber threats, underwater sabotage, security of offshore oil and gas installations and growing strategic challenges in the Andaman and Nicobar region. Amidst the changing nature of warfare and modern maritime threats, India is now moving rapidly towards strengthening its offshore security infrastructure through high-tech surveillance, AI based maritime domain awareness, joint operation capability and multi-agency coordination. This meeting indicates that maritime security is going to be the most important pillar of India’s national security strategy in the coming times.
