
US President Donald Trump made the call during an event on the occasion of America’s 250th Independence Day at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on Sunday. He showed personal support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that relations between the two countries had “never been so good before.” He said that he likes Prime Minister Modi very much and he is my friend.
Speaking on speakerphone to hundreds of people gathered at a reception hosted by the US Embassy Trump Said, “I like the Prime Minister very much. Modi is very nice. He is my friend, and I want to say a very good evening to everyone here this morning and this evening there and I just want to say, you are very good. We have never been so close to India before, and India can trust me and our country 100%.”

Trump also reiterated his support for India. He said, “If they ever need help, they know where to call. They call right here. We are doing well. We are making records. We have a record economy, a record stock market and everything India wants to have, we have it. I am a big fan of Prime Minister Modi.”
The US President also praised Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who was present at the program. Trump said, “Marco is the greatest. He will be known as the greatest Secretary of State in American history. Say hello to Prime Minister Modi and tell him I am a big fan of his.”
The call came while Rubio was on a visit to India, which includes meetings with Prime Minister Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and attending the Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting to be held at Hyderabad House on May 26.
Decades old relationship between India and America
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore, who attended the reception, said that the Trump-Modi relationship is very important for the relations between the two countries. “Every time the President and I talk, the first question he asks is, ‘How is my friend the Prime Minister?’ Gore said, “It is important to say this because this relationship is not new. This is almost a decade old.”
According to the Prime Minister’s statement, Modi and Rubio discussed defense cooperation, strategic technology, trade and investment, energy security, connectivity, education and people-to-people ties during their meeting on Saturday.
Rubio also shared America’s perspective on the developments taking place in West Asia. The US State Department said Rubio stressed that Washington “will not let Iran hold the global energy market hostage” and said US energy exports could help diversify India’s energy supply.
