15 Indians died in a boat accident in Vietnam on Saturday. According to the list released by the Indian Embassy in Vietnam, out of the 15 dead people, 10 are from Tamil Nadu, three from Andhra Pradesh and two from Kerala. Many national leaders including PM Narendra Modi, President Draupadi Murmu, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay expressed grief over the loss. At the same time, the Indian Diplomatic Mission in Vietnam said that they will keep a close watch on the situation and will give updates after getting more information from local authorities.
According to media reports, the incident occurred when a speedboat carrying 36 people capsized about 400 meters away from Rat Ngoi Islet. Tourist boats in the area saw the overturned boat and ran to help. A boat owner involved in the rescue said they reached the spot within five minutes, but many passengers remained trapped inside the overturned boat, making the operation difficult.
