The Central Government has taken a big step to take the strength of the Indian Air Force to a new peak. Giving impetus to India’s indigenous defense production program, the Defense Ministry has issued the official tender i.e. Request for Proposal (RFP) for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) project. According to news agency ANI, three selected industrial groups and their consortium have been shortlisted for this mega project to make the country’s military preparedness self-reliant. To win this biggest contract in the defense sector, the competition has become tough between the consortium of Tata Advanced Systems, Larsen & Toubro (L&T)-Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and Bharat Forge-BEML (BEML).
Country’s first fifth generation stealth fighter jet
India has been dependent on foreign fighter planes for a long time for defense needs, but the AMCA project is going to completely change the story of this self-reliance of the country. This is India’s own fifth generation stealth fighter jet program. This simply means that this fighter aircraft will not be caught by the enemy’s radar due to its state-of-the-art technology.
With the implementation of this project, not only will the combat capability of the Air Force be strengthened, but it will also lead to the development of high-tech defense system within the country. Last year, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh had approved the execution model of this ambitious program. Under this model, the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) will work closely with industry leaders to provide equal opportunity to both the public and private sectors to move forward through a fair competitive process.
New aircraft will be equipped with artificial intelligence
This indigenous aircraft is being completely prepared to suit the security challenges of the future. According to the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), which is designing the aircraft, special stealth technology as well as Artificial Intelligence (AI) system will be integrated in this fighter jet. This AI technology will help the pilot to take quick and accurate decisions in combat situations and improve mission performance.
A full-scale model of this powerful aircraft has also been displayed during the Aero India 2025 exhibition held in Bengaluru, which gave a great glimpse of India’s technological progress. Defense experts believe that with the inclusion of these modern technologies, India’s AMCA will stand firmly in the league of the world’s most advanced fifth generation fighter aircraft.
World’s selected testing center will be built in Andhra Pradesh
Work has also started on the infrastructure required to complete this grand defense project on time. This month, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has laid the foundation stone of ‘Core Integration and Flight Testing Centre’ at Puttaparthi. This center, to be built at a cost of approximately ₹ 2,000 crore, will speed up the testing and development process of future indigenous aircraft manifold.
This center will prove to be the backbone for the main AMCA program with an estimated cost of about ₹15,000 crore. Underlining the importance of this centre, the Defense Minister had said that Puttaparthi is now going to be included in the list of those few defense centers in the world from where fifth generation modern fighter aircraft will take off.
