The wait of decades is about to end today. Zojila Tunnel is ready to create history. Breakthrough blast will take place in Zojila Tunnel in some time. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari will witness this historic moment in the world’s longest tunnel. The journey from Kashmir to Ladakh which used to take hours, will now be covered in minutes through this tunnel. The distance of three hours will be covered in 15-30 minutes. There will be connectivity in every season.
Zojil Tunnel is a unique 13.153 km long tunnel being built in India. This will be the world’s longest ‘single-tube’ tunnel, in which vehicles will be able to move from both sides inside the same tube i.e. pipe. This tunnel is being built between Sonamarg (Baltal) of Jammu and Kashmir and Dras-Kargil (Meenamarg) of Ladakh at an altitude of about 11,578 feet.
The tunnel is built at a cost of Rs 6500 crore.
In this area, roads remain closed for several months in a year due to heavy snowfall, landslides and bad weather. With the construction of this tunnel, movement between the two areas will be possible in all seasons. That too all 12 months of the year. It has been built at a cost of about Rs 6500 crore. ‘Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited’ (MEIL) has constructed it.
The completion of this tunnel is being considered a huge success for India’s development and engineering. Obviously the enemies of the country will be troubled by the construction of Zojila Tunnel. Through this the enemy will get a befitting reply in time. Logistics, weapons and soldiers can be sent from Zojila Tunnel to LAC throughout the year without any hindrance.
The biggest challenge in the tunnel was water leakage
According to officials, the biggest challenge in this tunnel was the leakage of water inside it. This is Asia’s longest and highest tunnel which will not only save people’s travel time but will also reduce fuel consumption. Its construction will also boost tourism, business activities and employment opportunities in this area.
