The troubles of former Team India cricketer and TMC MP Yusuf Pathan have increased. Gujarat High Court has reprimanded him in the case of encroachment in Vadodara. The court asked Pathan that how can you enter a plot without completing the formalities? The court has said that no fixed process for giving the land was completed, but there was only a proposal, which was rejected by the government.
The division bench of Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal and Justice DN Ray also said that no exemption can be given to any person occupying government land without completing the formalities. The court has asked Pathan’s lawyer how much time will it take to vacate the land. During the hearing, the court has also hinted at imposing a fine in the case. The next hearing of the case will be on June 15.
The order of the single judge was challenged
Pathan had challenged the August 2025 order of the single judge of the High Court, in which he was found to be an encroachment. The judge declared the occupation of government land illegal. The court said that keeping land in possession for a long time without paying money does not make a person its owner. One should not take advantage of being a celebrity. Celebrities are role models for the society. People look at their behavior. Therefore, he cannot be given any relaxation in the law just because he is famous. This will send a wrong message to the society.
The government had canceled the allotment
Earlier, Pathan had challenged before the single judge the order of the state government dated June 6, 2024, in which 978 square meters of land was being given on lease by Vadodara Municipal Corporation to Pathan for 99 years without any public auction. The government issued an order canceling this land allotment and ordered the Municipal Corporation to immediately remove any illegal encroachment on that land.
Pathan had approached the single judge of the High Court against this decision of the government. In 2012, Pathan had demanded Vadodara Municipal Corporation to transfer a government land in his name. The Municipal Corporation was considering giving that land to Pathan at market price without holding any auction.
