The heat is at its peak in the capital and everyone is waiting for the monsoon to get relief from it. The south-west monsoon, which was three days late in Kerala from its normal date, has reached Maharashtra on time. This has raised hopes that by the end of this month, monsoon will arrive in Delhi around its normal time. The monsoon reached Kerala on June 4, which was a few days behind its normal date of June 1 and almost a week late than the IMD’s earlier estimate (May 26). However, after this it moved rapidly and covered large parts of the west coast up to Goa by June 5 and entered Maharashtra on June 6.
Now everyone wants to know when the monsoon will reach Delhi. According to IMD’s monsoon tracking map, monsoon is expected to reach Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR) between June 25 and June 30. The same time frame is expected to remain the same for nearby areas like Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and other parts of North India.
North India may get relief from heat after June 25
After reaching Delhi, the monsoon is expected to move north-westwards into parts of Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir. Last year, the southwest monsoon reached Delhi on June 29, which was two days late from its normal date of June 27 based on the 1961-2019 average.
