During the discussion on the bill brought in the Lok Sabha against the paper leak, the Leader of Opposition had alleged that barbaric action was taken against the protesters and bullets were fired only on the instructions of the Home Minister, on which the government said that the orders to fire are given by the officers, not the government. Samajwadi Party (SP) has attacked this clarification of the BJP government and says that when the bullet was fired in Ayodhya, it was Mulayam who fired it and the administration fired it in Delhi. Why are such double standards being adopted?
SP MP Ram Gopal Yadav said on the uproar after Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s statement, “I want to ask the people, when the firing took place in Ayodhya, Mulayam Singh was held responsible for ordering it, but when the firing took place here (protesters in Delhi), the administration was held responsible. Just look at the double standards.”

Virendra Singh also made allegations
Before Ram Gopal, another MP from the same party, Virendra Singh also made allegations and said, “The answer given by the government inside the House means that the bullets were fired on the students and the bullets were fired, initially the bullets were not fired. But if the bullets were fired, then this order was not given by the Home Minister. In this matter, the government said that the opposition was not aware. Then the question arises that where does their information go when they are against Mulayam in the Ayodhya case.” Alleging that bullets were fired on Singh’s orders is a two-pronged approach of these people and also exposes their double character.”
What did Jitendra Singh say
Union Minister Jitendra Singh, while replying to the discussion on Anti Paper Leak Bill yesterday, targeted Rahul Gandhi and said that the Leader of Opposition alleged that the Home Minister ordered firing but he failed to prove it.
He said, “When no bullets were fired, the question of giving orders does not arise. The orders to open fire are not given by any minister. This order is issued by a magistrate or by some officer. Rahul Gandhi’s statement is irresponsible. Only tear gas was used on the protesters.”
Uproar over Rahul Gandhi’s statement
Earlier, on July 20, Rahul Gandhi made a scathing attack on Home Minister Amit Shah in the Lok Sabha over the alleged brutal treatment of protesting students in Delhi, which led to an uproar in the House. While participating in the ongoing discussion on Anti Paper Leak Bill, the Congress leader had made allegations and held the Home Ministry responsible for the violence of July 20.
After this, he also said during the PC that Amit Shah should be dismissed and the entire matter should be investigated by a high-powered committee under the supervision of the Supreme Court.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, Rahul said, “The so-called Home Minister of this country does not have the courage to come and sit here. Why is the Home Minister not present in the House today? He has not come because he is scared.” Referring to the use of force on the students, he also made serious allegations against the Home Minister. However, on his statement, the ruling party MPs raised slogans of Rahul Gandhi apologizing.
