August 2026 Festivals: The month of Sawan has started. This month will last till the whole of August. This month is very sacred and special from religious point of view. The month of August is also very special in terms of fasts and festivals. Many major fasts and festivals are going to take place in the month of August like Sawan Shivratri, Hariyali Teej, Nag Panchami, Kajri Teej, Rakshabandhan and Rakshabandhan. Sawan Shivratri
Shivratri is celebrated every year in the month of Sawan. This year Saavan Shivratri will be celebrated on 11th August. This is known as Saavan Shivratri. Its importance is considered equal to that of Mahashivratri. Sawan Shivratri is the day when Kanwadiyas perform Jalabhishek of Mahadev with water brought from holy rivers in temples and Shiva temples and the Kawand Yatra ends.
Hariyali Teej
Every year, Hariyali Teej fast is observed on the Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Sawan month. This fast is very special for both married women and unmarried girls. There is a religious belief that by observing the fast of Hariyali Teej, married women are blessed with unbroken good fortune and unmarried girls get the desired groom. This year, Hariyali Teej fast will be observed on 15th of August.
Nag Panchami
Every year in the month of Sawan, the festival of Nag Panchami is celebrated on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha. On this day, the snake god is worshiped with rituals. This year the holy festival of Nag Panchami will be celebrated on 17th August.
Raksha Bandhan
Rakshabandhan, the festival of unbreakable love between brother and sister, is celebrated every year on the full moon date of the month of Sawan. This year this holy festival will be celebrated on 28th August.
