Do duty without fear, I will take responsibility… CRPF DG told soldiers amid pellet gun controversy

July 30, 2026 by Uma Shankar

DG Gyanendra Pratap Singh of CRPF, the country’s premier central police force, told the soldiers to do their duty without any fear. He also said that he himself will take full responsibility for the decisions of the soldiers. He said this at the force’s felicitation ceremony. In fact, a few days ago, CRPF’s Rapid Action Force (RAF) had clashed with the protesters during the protest against exam paper leak in Jantar Mantar, Delhi. During that time the RAF had used pellet guns, due to which they were accused of using excessive force.

During this protest, Rapid Action Force (RAF) used pellet guns, due to which they were criticized with allegations of excessive use of force. Gyanendra Pratap said, “As the Director General of CRPF, I want to assure all of you that whether it is an operational battalion or a law-and-order unit, whatever decisions you take and whatever actions you take while performing your duties, I take responsibility for all those decisions and actions.”

‘It is decided to review after every major operation’

DG Gyanendra Pratap Singh said that the actions of RAF soldiers will be professionally reviewed after the incident. The RAF is part of the CRPF and is trained to prevent riots, handle crowds and deal with disturbances. Conducting such review after every major operation in CRPF is part of the prescribed procedure (SOP). In this review it will be seen when and under what circumstances the pellet gun was fired and why action had to be taken against the protesters. It will also be investigated how the incident happened and whether the pellet gun was used as per the rules or not.

The CRPF has a presence across India and is known for its ability to quickly adapt to the needs of different situations, working closely with state police. In the last few years, it has established itself as one of the most liked forces among both the public and the state administration.
