The review meeting of the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir on the functioning of AIIMS being built in Awantipura area of Pulwama district has become the cause of a new political controversy in Jammu and Kashmir. However, today again Mehbooba Mufti added fuel to the fire by writing on social media platforms in this regard. Ignoring the questions raised by the National Conference and other political parties, Mehbooba Mufti wrote that, I spoke to Union Health Minister JP Nadda ji and requested him to expedite the ongoing work at AIIMS Awantipora so that there is no further delay. He assured me that the work would be completed on time.
He said that undoubtedly, the team deployed here is working hard day and night, but in view of the deteriorating situation of health services in Jammu and Kashmir, it is extremely important to start AIIMS Awantipora as soon as possible. This will provide much needed relief and quality medical services.
On taking review of any such project by the PDP President, PDP spokesperson Syed Tajamul Islam said that the construction of AIIMS was a dream project of Mehbooba Mufti’s father and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Syed and Mehbooba Mufti had gone there only to see where the problems were getting stuck in the construction of this project. According to Tajamul, two elected PDP MLAs from both Pulwama and Tral were with Mehbooba Mufti and the main purpose of such follow up was to speed up the work of this big hospital so that people could get benefits on time.
National Conference angry over AIIMS review meeting
The National Conference is calling the AIIMS review meeting of PDP President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti a controversy. According to National Conference MLA and spokesperson Tanveer Sadiq, there is someone behind Mehbooba Mufti who asked her to do this.
According to Tanveer, if a non-elected person goes to a central project, by doing so she is showing that tomorrow anyone can go to any place for such a review meeting. According to Tanveer, PDP was born to weaken the National Conference and yesterday when the National Conference decided that it would go to Delhi and remind Delhi of its promise. Meanwhile, a political party being active in doing so indicates where its strings are connected.
BJP has also not justified the AIIMS review meeting by Mehbooba Mufti, she said that AIIMS is the dream project of the Prime Minister and he himself has given one AIIMS to Jammu and one to Kashmir and the political parties here are doing political drama on this, especially Mehbooba ji, anyone can go to AIIMS to take a selfie, it is a good thing, but in what capacity did he hold the review meeting there?
Senior BJP leader and spokesperson Altaf Thakur asked that Mehbooba Mufti is a former Chief Minister, does she not even know this? There is no previous constitutional authority under which he can hold such a meeting. This is just a political drama to keep itself alive.
Jammu Kashmir People’s Conference raised questions
Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference President Sajjad Lone also questioned Mehbooba Mufti, writing, “Now I have a question for Mehbooba ji. If she presides over the review meeting of any central institution today, even though she is not an MLA, then what stops any non-MLA office-bearer of RSS or BJP from presiding over similar meetings? They can argue that they have 28 MLAs compared to 4 MLAs of PDP.
He further said, what stops Farooq Abdullah Sahab, Azad Sahab or Nirmal Singh Sahab from presiding over such meetings? The list could go on and is such a political privilege available in any other part of India? Is the elected political constituency in Jammu and Kashmir destined to become a fish market? Mehbooba ji has perhaps opened the way for others also. Still, I would say that it is extremely important that he accepts that this was an error in decision making.
BJP also surrounded Mehbooba Mufti
It is noteworthy that only after Mehbooba Mufti held a meeting with officials at AIIMS on Friday and took stock of the ongoing work, Jammu and Kashmir Government Health Minister Sakina Ittu, without taking the name of Mehbooba Mufti, wrote on social media platform Today the elected government is headed by Honorable Chief Minister JB Omar Abdullah, yet the question arises in what capacity is the former ruler reviewing the AIIMS Awantipora project.
Ittu further said that more importantly, who is prompting them to do so? Which power center in Delhi is directing these actions? The irony is that those who caused the slow pace of the AIIMS project are now trying to take credit for its progress. The truth is that due to the concentrated efforts, monitoring and commitment of the present government under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, this project is moving towards completion. The people of Jammu and Kashmir are so intelligent that they can differentiate between those who delay development and those who ensure development.
