What is Miyawaki technique?
Miyawaki forests are also called ‘pocket forests’. These are made by planting different types of local trees and plants very close to each other in a small space. In this, three to 5 plants are planted in every square meter. The main idea behind this is that when small plants are planted close together, they have to compete with each other for water, nutrients and light. Due to this, they grow much faster than plants planted in the normal way.
‘This is not just a world record, it is also important for a clean environment’
AMC officials, school board representatives, BAPS volunteers, CREDAI members, police personnel, NCC cadets, NGOs, educational institutions, social organizations and citizens participated enthusiastically in this tree plantation drive. AMC said that this initiative is not only a world record, but also an important step towards creating a greener, cleaner and more sustainable Ahmedabad.
The civic body stressed that the use of local plant species will help strengthen urban biodiversity and give a healthy environment for future generations. With this achievement, Ahmedabad has made a significant contribution towards global environmental protection and sustainable urban development.
