An important step was taken on Wednesday towards cleaning the Yamuna river in Delhi and promoting scientific management of cow dung. In the presence of Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, an important Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) for setting up Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) projects.
Calling it a historic initiative, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that during the tenure of previous governments, about 1,500 metric tonnes of cow dung used to fall into Yamuna every day. The state government has set a target of bringing this figure to zero, and this agreement is a big step in that direction. He said that this initiative will strengthen the Yamuna cleaning campaign and will provide opportunities for additional income to cow sheds and cattle herders. And cow dung can be used to make clean energy and organic fertilizer.

CBG plants will be set up at different places in Delhi
On this occasion, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the Modi government is committed to making Yamuna clean, pollution-free and beautiful. He said that earlier the cow dung produced in Delhi used to flow directly into Yamuna, causing water pollution, but now it will be used to make compressed bio-gas (CBG) and organic fertilizers. For this, CBG plants will be installed at different places in Delhi.
Will become an example for other big cities of the country
Amit Shah said that this model will not only help in reducing pollution in Delhi, but will also become an example for other big cities of the country. This will promote cleanliness and will also increase the income of cattle herders. On this occasion, Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy and Panchayati Raj Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Taranjit Singh Sandhu, MCD Mayor Parvesh Wahi and senior officials of related departments were also present.
