June 7, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Instagram Reels Trends 2026: Instagram Reels has become a major source of entertainment and information in India. Now a new study conducted by Meta has revealed what kind of content Indian users are watching the most on Reels in 2026. In this survey conducted by IPSOS, more than 4,000 people from 23 cities and rural areas of the country were included. According to the report, content related to beauty, fashion, lifestyle and fitness is most popular among people. Also, reels are now influencing people’s purchasing decisions.

Beauty, fashion and fitness content highlights

According to the report released by Meta, fashion and trends categories along with beauty and makeup are on top among the most liked reels content in India. 52 percent of the people surveyed showed maximum engagement with reels related to these two topics. After this, lifestyle and fitness content stood at second place with 42 percent engagement. Whereas comedy video got 39 percent engagement, sports content got 38 percent engagement and travel video got 37 percent engagement. The report shows that Indian users are now using Reels not only for entertainment but also for information related to fitness, fashion and everyday life.

Reels are also influencing purchasing decisions

The report also revealed that Instagram Reels is no longer just a platform for watching videos, but it is also influencing the shopping habits of people. According to the study, 81 percent of users first get information about a new product through reels. Whereas 66 percent people are influenced by reels before considering a brand. Not only this, the influence of reels was also seen on 47 percent of the final purchasing decisions. Its impact is more among Gen Z users. According to the report, 84 percent of Gen Z users discover new products and brands through meta platforms. Even in rural India, 73 percent people considered meta platforms important for discovering new brands.

The craze for reels is almost the same in villages and cities.

According to Meta report, the habit of watching video content in India is no longer limited to cities only. 97 percent of the internet users surveyed said that they watch videos on meta platforms every day. Interestingly, daily video engagement in urban India stood at 98 percent, while in rural India this figure was recorded at 94 percent. This difference is very small and shows that people in both villages and cities are watching Reels content almost equally. This trend is stronger among Gen Z users, where 89 percent of the youth watch Reels every day. Meta claims that Reels delivers approximately 60 percent more creator engagement than other surveyed short video platforms.
