TMC split from Kolkata to Delhi, after MLAs, now 18 MPs will shock Mamata!

June 5, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Political rebellion is being seen within TMC. Now it is believed that a new game is about to be played in the party. In fact, on the lines of TMC MLAs from Bengal, a new group of TMC Lok Sabha MPs may also be formed in the coming days. More than a dozen MPs may join the new TMC group. This group of Lok Sabha MPs is said to be led by a very senior MP, who has been angry at being sidelined in the party for a long time.

An important reason for this possible break is being cited as the disrespect and behavior meted out to senior TMC MPs by Abhishek Banerjee and his associates. According to sources, some TMC MPs are in touch with BJP since the election results were declared on May 4.

How many TMC MPs in Lok Sabha?

TMC has 28 MPs in the Lok Sabha. However, sources also say that there is no scope for any disunity in TMC’s Rajya Sabha party. The reason for this is that most of the Rajya Sabha MPs of TMC are loyal to Mamata Banerjee and would hardly go against her. TMC has 13 MPs in Rajya Sabha. 18 TMC MPs will also come to Delhi.

The Trinamool Legislative Party in Bengal has already divided into two parts. A rebel group of 60 MLAs under the leadership of MLA Ritabrata Banerjee is calling itself the ‘real’ Trinamool. This group has appointed Ritabrata Banerjee as the leader of the opposition and has also taken its approval from the Assembly Speaker. This group openly rebelled against Mamata Banerjee and challenged the choice of Mamata Banerjee as the leader of the opposition in the assembly.

This rebellion had been brewing since the defeat in the elections. Many leaders have criticized the party on issues like corruption and the way it handled the rape-murder case. Many leaders had attended the meeting called by Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari last week.

What did Ritabrata Banerjee say?

Leader of the opposition in West Bengal and expelled from Trinamool Congress Ritabrata Banerjee on Friday expressed confidence that the support for the rebel TMC faction he is leading will ‘only keep increasing’. This statement of Ritabrata Banerjee has come amidst the turmoil in Mamata Banerjee’s party. He claimed that he has the support of a large section of the party’s MLAs in the West Bengal Assembly. He said that the number of supporting MLAs will increase further.
