After the assembly elections in West Bengal, the political atmosphere of not only the state but also the country has changed. Mamata Banerjee, who faced a crushing defeat in the elections, is facing continuous rebellion in her Trinamool Congress (TMC). After the Assembly, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs have also come out openly in opposition to Mamata. In such a situation, speculations are being made whether Mamata will merge her remaining party with Congress and do politics with a new attitude?
Amidst the turmoil in Trinamool Congress, Mamata had recently come to Delhi to attend the meeting of INDIA alliance of opposition parties. After the alliance meeting, on Tuesday he met Congress Parliamentary Dal President Sonia Gandhi. After this meeting, discussions started everywhere whether Mamata would take a big gamble and get her TMC merged with Congress. However, these claims were denied by both the parties. Congress termed this discussion wrong.
What did Congress say on Sonia-Mamata meeting?
Congress termed the news related to the merger of the two parties as completely false, in which it was claimed that the issue of merger was also discussed during the meeting between the party Parliamentary Dal President Sonia and Trinamool chief Mamata. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said that both the leaders had discussed their personal issues.
Jairam Ramesh posted on social media platform
Some news reports on what supposedly transpire in the meeting between Smt Sonia Gandhi and Ms. Mamata Banerjee is completely inaccurate. The meeting was very cordial and many personal matters were talked about, given the long relationship they have had.

No detailed information regarding the meeting
Neither party made public the information about the meeting between the two leaders, but sources say that during the meeting, Mamata stressed on the unity of the opposition parties and said that the INDIA alliance should work together to counter the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on various issues related to the public.
Amid the ongoing rebellion in TMC, Mamta had met Sonia at her residence the day before yesterday on Tuesday. After the meeting between Sonia and Mamata, TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee met Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday.
These speculations are baseless: TMC leader
Regarding the meeting, such claims were made that during the meeting between the two women leaders, a proposal was given to Mamata by the top leadership of the Congress to merge her party with the Congress.
Trinamool Congress also completely rejected the speculations of merger with Congress. Mamata-led TMC said that there is no such plan. A senior leader of Trinamool Congress rejected these reports and termed them baseless. Speaking to news agency PTI, he said, “We do not have any such information. It is baseless.”
