Google has taken a big legal step against cyber crime network. Google has sued 9,000 fake websites and a gang that sent 25 lakh fraudulent messages. The company alleges that a gang operating from China used Google Gemini AI to create thousands of fake websites and millions of fraudulent messages. Through these scams, people were targeted in the name of trustworthy companies and government services. According to Google, this network affected millions of smartphone users and committed fraud worth millions of dollars.
Fishing tools developed with the help of Gemini
Google has claimed in a lawsuit filed in a US court that a cyber crime network named ‘Outsider Enterprise’ was operating from China and conducted its activities through encrypted messaging platforms like Telegram. According to the company, this network created 131 different phishing kits using Google Gemini. With the help of these tools, criminals created a large number of fake messages and fake websites. These scams were designed to look like real messages from trusted services like YouTube, Google, New York’s EZPass toll system and the US Postal Service, making it easy for common people to be deceived.
9,000 fake websites and lakhs of scam messages
According to the lawsuit, this gang created more than one million dangerous internet addresses, the purpose of which was to trap people. Apart from this, about 9,000 such fake websites were created which looked like real websites and through which credit card information, passwords and other sensitive data were stolen. Google says that within just two weeks of May, this network sent more than 25 lakh scam text messages to Android users. During this period, about 55,000 suspicious messages were identified and users were warned. Although the exact figure of financial loss is not available, fraud worth millions of dollars has been confirmed.
Action in collaboration with FBI and telecom companies
This is the first time that Google has taken such comprehensive legal action against such AI-based cyber crime. The company is working closely with the American investigative agency FBI and the country’s major telecom companies AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile in this matter. The aim of these organizations is to detect the digital activities of criminals and stop fake messages before they reach the users. Google believes that misuse of AI technology is making cyber crime more dangerous than before. In such a situation, cooperation between technology companies, law enforcement agencies and telecom operators will prove to be very important to prevent online fraud in future.
