Shekhar Kapur himself had told that he had also got the cockroach to act. He tells that I and cinematographer Baba Azmi were thinking about how to get the cockroach to act. Then he thought that Old Monk should bring a bottle of liquor and poured some rum in front of the cockroach. He went closer and started licking the drops and after some time he became completely calm and stable.

Shekhar Kapur told that the cockroach had started walking staggered. After which that scene was shot with Sridevi. He was really drunk and started running behind Sridevi, it seemed as if he was intoxicated. He also told that, not only in the film but also in real life, Sridevi was afraid of cockroaches.
