Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said Operation Sindoor showcased India’s “world-class” defense preparedness. He attributed its success to the central government’s continued emphasis on military modernization and indigenous defense production. Speaking at an event in New Delhi, Rajnath Singh described Operation Sindoor as a proof of the capability and bravery of the Indian Army and said it gave a “befitting reply” to the terrorists and their supporters.
Rajnath Singh Said, “Operation Sindoor is a testament to India’s up-to-date, up-to-the-mark and up-to-the-standard defense preparedness, which has been further enhanced by the consistent efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government over the last 12 years to transform the defense sector, inspired by the spirit of Nation First and Forces First.”
Rajnath Singh said that during the operation, indigenous systems including Akash Tir Air Defense System, Akash Missile System and BrahMos Missile were effectively deployed along with other advanced military equipment.
Akash, BrahMos showed the power of indigenous power
The Defense Minister said, “Advanced systems like Akash Tir, Akash Missile System and BrahMos along with many other state-of-the-art equipment were put to good use during the operation. This is because of the foundation laid in the last 12 years.”
Emphasizing the government’s efforts to increase self-reliance in defence, Rajnath Singh said the five positive indigenization lists issued by the Armed Forces now include 509 defense items, while five more lists issued by Defense Public Sector Undertakings include 5,012 items.
The Defense Minister said, “As we move forward with determination and systematically towards building a self-reliant and strong defense sector, another positive indigenization list will be notified soon to further accelerate this vision.” He also said that India’s annual defense production has reached a record high in 2025-26 as compared to 2014.
India’s world class defense power
Singh said, “Our annual defense production reached a record high of about Rs 1.78 lakh crore in the financial year 2025-26, which was about Rs 40,000 crore in 2014. Our defense production target is to cross the mark of Rs 2 lakh crore this year and Rs 3 lakh crore by 2029. Our aim is to ensure that defense exports reach Rs 2 lakh crore by 2029. If we reach Rs 50,000 crore, the pace at which work is going on, I am confident that we will be successful in achieving the target.”
The Defense Minister also said that India is emerging not only as a defense manufacturer for its own needs, but also as a reliable global security partner with its growing role in the Indian Ocean and Indo-Pacific. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visits to Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand, Rajnath Singh said that these meetings have strengthened India’s diplomatic, strategic and economic partnership in the Indo-Pacific.
He said, “PM Modi’s visit to Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand has taken India’s diplomatic, economic, strategic and cultural relations in the vital Indo-Pacific region to new heights, ranging from cooperation on the BrahMos missile system and the reconstruction of the Prambanan temple in Indonesia to doubling of uranium supplies from Australia and trade with New Zealand.”
