Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)- Senior leader of Ajit faction and Maharashtra Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal once again kept on wringing his hands. His wish of going to Rajya Sabha was not fulfilled. The party has nominated Rajendra Jain, a two-time member of the Legislative Council from Bhandara-Gondiya, as its candidate for the Rajya Sabha seat. While there are reports of Bhujbal being angry with this decision of NCP, there is huge anger among his supporters too.
According to the information, Chhagan Bhujbal supporters have started protesting against not getting Rajya Sabha ticket. Supporters have put up posters at various places in Yeola city of Nashik. On which it is written, Sir, take decision. Which is being discussed vigorously in political circles. After Chhagan Bhujbal’s name was dropped from the list of Rajya Sabha candidates at the last moment, anger among the supporters has increased.
There were preparations to send Bhujbal to Rajya Sabha
Actually, this time the party was preparing to send senior leader Chhagan Bhujbal to Rajya Sabha. When the round of meetings started within the party and Chhagan Bhujbal was discussed about Rajya Sabha, then he said that he will go to Rajya Sabha only when his nephew Sameer Bhujbal is made a cabinet minister in the Maharashtra cabinet.
The party leadership took this matter of Bhujbal to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Fadnavis said that he will discuss with Delhi and give the decision. However, this proposal of force was not approved in Delhi. It was told that cabinet expansion or swearing in is not possible for just one person.
NCP made Rajendra Jain its candidate
Bhujbal was being considered a possible contender for the Rajya Sabha by-election to be held on June 18, but NCP dashed his hopes by fielding Rajendra Jain as its candidate. This by-election is being held for the seat vacant due to the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar.
‘I want to go to Rajya Sabha…’
Speaking to reporters, Bhujbal had said that he had expressed his desire to go to Rajya Sabha and also suggested that the norms applicable to other political families should be adopted in his case also. He said, ‘I want to go to Rajya Sabha. I also want to go to Lok Sabha. Many times opportunities came, but I did not get the chance. He said that there are many examples of political families whose members hold simultaneous positions in Parliament and the government and after working in public life for a long time, they should also get such an opportunity.
What did Bhujbal say when the proposal was rejected?
Bhujbal said that a proposal in this regard had come up for discussion with the BJP leadership, but there was paucity of time before the Rajya Sabha election process. He also denied that the BJP had rejected his proposal. He said, ‘When I proposed to BJP to make Sameer a minister in the state and nominate myself to Rajya Sabha, only one day was left for the decision. The reply came from BJP that whenever there is cabinet expansion in the state, it will be considered. Therefore, it is wrong to say that BJP rejected my proposal.
‘I am a Kabaddi player, not a chess player’
He said ‘I am not angry. Why should I be angry?’. He said he is only demanding a fair opportunity and with time he will get justice. ‘If not today, then tomorrow, if not tomorrow, the day after tomorrow,’ he said. And yes, I am a Kabaddi player, not a chess player.
Displeasure among Bhujabal supporters
Here, after not getting positive response to Bhujwal’s demand, his supporters are said to be angry with Rajendra Jain being made the candidate. Through posters, supporters have demanded Chhagan Bhujbal to give indications regarding his future political role and decisions. Now everyone’s eyes are on whether Chhagan Bhujbal takes any major political decision after this whole incident or not.
