During this entire month, Shiva devotees worship Lord Bholenath and keep a fast on Monday of Sawan and pray to Mahadev for happiness, prosperity and fulfillment of their wishes. There is a religious belief that by worshiping Lord Shiva on Monday of Sawan, devotees get his blessings. This is the reason why a large number of devotees observe fast on this day and go to the temple and perform Jalabhishek on Shivalinga.

According to your devotion, you can also do Abhishek with Ganga water or raw milk. After this, offer Belpatra, flowers and fruits to Lord Shiva. Chant Om Namah Shivay mantra during puja. Therefore, even if a person cannot keep the fast, he can still worship Bholenath in this way as per his capacity.

If you can’t go to the temple then worship like this

Many times it is not possible to go to the temple due to work, travel or any other reason. Even in such a situation, devotees can worship Lord Shiva at home. Light a lamp in front of Lord Shiva and meditate at any convenient time in the morning or evening. If Shivalinga is present in the house then offer water on it. After this, chant Shiva mantra and perform aarti of Lord Shiva. If you want, you can also recite Shiva Chalisa or any Shiva Stotra. Mental worship is also given special importance in religious beliefs. This means that if due to some reason the person is not able to perform all the rituals of worship, then he can worship and remember Lord Shiva by meditating in his mind.

Chant ‘Om Namah Shivay’

Chanting the mantras of Lord Shiva on Monday of Sawan is considered auspicious. If you are not able to keep the fast, then you can take out some time on this day and chant the mantra ‘Om Namah Shivay’. You can chant this mantra 11, 21, 51 or 108 times as per your convenience. While chanting the mantra, keep your attention on Lord Shiva and pray according to your devotion in your mind. It is believed that Om Namah Shivay is the main mantra of Lord Shiva.

Recite Shiv Chalisa and Shiv Stotra

If you are not able to keep the fast on Sawan Monday, then you can also do religious lessons related to Lord Shiva on this day. Shiva Chalisa, Shiva Stotra or Lord Shiva’s Aarti can be recited at home. If you do not have much time, then sitting quietly and meditating on Lord Shiva for a few minutes can also be a part of your daily routine.

When will Sawan Monday fall in 2026?

According to the Panchang, the holy month of Saavan in the year 2026 will start from Thursday, July 30 and will end on Friday, August 28. During this period there will be a total of four Sawan Mondays. These four Mondays are considered special for the worship of Lord Shiva and Jalabhishek. The fast on the first Monday of Sawan will be observed on 3 August 2026.
