July 27, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Difference between Devta and Bhagwan: Deities and God have their own place in Sanatan Dharma. Both of them are considered very revered. Both are worshiped with rituals. Both have their own role and importance. Many people believe that deities and God are the same, but this is not correct. Deities are considered servants of God. God is considered to be the power that creates and controls everything in this world.

Both gods and deities are considered important in Sanatan Dharma, but gods represent nature, while God is considered the greatest power in the world. This is why some major differences between deities and God have been mentioned in our religious scriptures. Let us know about it in detail.

deity divine being and god supreme power

Deities are those divine beings who represent the forces of nature. Gods are considered to be the rulers of various elements like fire, water, air, etc. Also the gods serve God and obey his orders. Whereas God is known as the power that controls the five elements – land, air, fire, water etc. God is the supreme power of this creation.

God has created this world and the creatures living in it and He controls everything, hence God is called omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent. God is an ocean of love and compassion.

Some other major differences between deity and god

Gods have powers, but they are very limited. Whereas God has infinite powers. God is considered the lord of the gods. To please the Gods, special worship is required. Whereas any human being can attain God without worship, only through love and devotion.
