Commonwealth Games 2026, Sarvesh Kushare: India’s Sarvesh Kushare has created history in Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026. The 31-year-old national record holder has won silver for India by jumping 2.25 meters. Tejaswin Shankar had won bronze in the men’s high jump event of the Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham four years ago. But Sarvesh Kushare is the first Indian to win a silver medal in this event. The big thing is that Sarvesh Kushare also made his debut in the Commonwealth Games from Glasgow 2026.
Gave purpose to the lives of dozens of youth
Sarvesh Kushare was born on 17 June 1995 in Devgaon, Nashik district of Maharashtra. His inclination towards high jump was developed during his school days by his physical education teacher Raosaheb Jadhav. Soon he earned a good name in high jump. Sarvesh Kushare’s success left an impact on the youth of his village. Dozens of youth from the village and surrounding areas were inspired by him and started high jumping. The motive of those youth behind this was to turn the life of their family around by taking a job under sports quota.
Naib Subedar in Indian Army
In the year 2016, Sarvesh Kushare joined the Indian Army. He was made Naib Subedar in the 101 Field Regiment of the Indian Army. This job gave stability to his life and helped him improve the level of his game.
National record holder won CWG silver
Talking about Sarvesh Kushare’s athletics career, he won gold in the South Asian Games in 2019. He won the silver medal in the Asian Athletics Championship in 2023. Last month itself, by jumping 2.31 metres, he broke Tejaswin Shankar’s national record of 2.30 metres, which had been standing for 8 years. While debuting in the Diamond League, he stood third with a high jump of 2.26 meters. Now in the Commonwealth Games, he has won silver for the country with another historic jump.
