
The June 2026 report of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has revealed a new picture of the Indian telecom market. According to the report, Reliance Jio remains the largest company in the country in terms of active mobile customers. At the same time, Bharti Airtel holds the record for adding the maximum number of new mobile customers in the month of June. During this period, the total telephone subscriber base of the country increased to 134.80 crore, while the number of active mobile subscribers crossed 120 crore.
Airtel also has strong performance
According to TRAI, in June 2026, Reliance Jio added 33.3 lakh new active i.e. VLR mobile customers. After this the total active mobile customer base of the company increased to 49.89 crore. Jio’s share in the total 120.11 crore active mobile customers of the country was about 41.5 percent, due to which it remains at the first position in this category. At the same time, Bharti Airtel also added 29.3 lakh new active customers during June. According to the report, 93.66 percent of the total wireless customers in the country remained active, while Airtel’s VLR ratio was the highest among major companies at 99.27 percent. On the other hand, there was a decline in the active customer base of Vodafone Idea, BSNL and MTNL.
Jio’s dominance continues in the market
Bharti Airtel holds the record for adding the highest number of new mobile customers in the month of June. The company added a total of 31.63 lakh new telecom customers, which includes 29.89 lakh mobile and 1.73 lakh fixed line customers. At the same time, Reliance Jio added 21.46 lakh new mobile customers, increasing its total mobile customer base to 50.36 crore. With this, Jio remains the country’s largest mobile service provider with about 39.3 percent market share.
During June, Vodafone Idea added 1.63 lakh and BSNL added 94,006 new wireless customers, while MTNL lost 11,284 customers. By the end of the month, total mobile customers of Airtel were 48.68 crore, Vodafone Idea 19.88 crore, BSNL 9.30 crore and MTNL 1.66 lakh.
87 percent new customers added to Jio and Airtel accounts in June
TRAI report shows that in June 2026, about 62 lakh new telecom customers were added across the country. Of these, only Jio and Airtel added 54.54 lakh customers, which is about 87 percent of the total new customers. According to the report, by the end of June, India’s total mobile subscriber base increased to 1282 million, while total wireless connections including mobile and fixed wireless access reached 1300 million. These include 114.7 crore mobile SIMs, 13.47 crore machine to machine i.e. M2M SIMs and 1.78 crore fixed wireless access connections. During the same period, the total telephone subscriber base of the country increased from 134.31 crore to 134.80 crore.
Jio also has a strong hold in fixed wireless and 5G FWA.
In fixed line services, Reliance Jio added 1.44 lakh new connections during June and its total wireline customer base reached 1.56 crore. The company’s market share in this category was 32.7 percent. At the same time, Jio also remains at the forefront in 5G Fixed Wireless Access i.e. FWA service. By the end of June, the company had 91.14 lakh 5G FWA customers, which is 70.5 percent of the total 5G FWA customers in the country. In June, the company added 1.46 lakh new customers in this category. Apart from this, Jio is currently the only company in the country providing UBR based fixed wireless service and the number of customers of this service has reached 49.34 lakh. TRAI also said that in June, more than 1.47 crore mobile customers applied for Mobile Number Portability (MNP), which is more than in May.
